Industrial Revolution
Due to the industrial revolution workers from the land came to citys in order to get a job in a new factory there (urbanization). The people now had shifts which changed their lifestyle a lot. Factory work was also new. The production was now faster and easier due to the new inventions. It included going from hand production to machines, new chemical manufacturing. Civil war
Southern states wanted to keep slavery and the Northern states wanted to abolish slavery. When slavery vanished on the one hand many peoples' American dream vanished along with it. On the other hand many people were ecstatic and had a newfound hope for the American dream. African Americans were now free and could step closer to achieving their dream.

Immigration
The American Dream drew many people to immigrate to the United States. Immigrants did strive for the opportunities and freedom that Americans had and what definded the American Dream.

World War 2
WW II brought America out of the Great Depression by employing many people which led to a lift in economy which then led to higher hopes and spirits for the American Dream. Due to WW II women were now accepted in the work field which was a huge gain for womens equality.

Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther was fighting for equality of African Americans. (Civil rights movement). Equality is part of the American Dream so he was basically fighting for African Americans to take part in the American Dream. Martin Luther King Jr. changed a lot for the people which led to segregation vanishing.

Barack Obama
The election of Barack Obama was a major event in America because he was the first African American to become president. This shows that it does not matter your race, if you try hard enough and do not give up you can reach your dream. African Americans finally felt a sense of ownership in the country following the inauguration of Barack Obama.
