South Carolina officially secedes from the Union -
New president
Abraham Lincoln becomes the 16th president of the United States. This added more conflict between the North and the South -
Fort Sumter
President Lincoln sent resources to Fort Sumter and the southern blockade had prevented the escort from reaching the fort. -
Confederacy begins
The Confederate states had formed after several other states seceded from the Union. -
Battle of Antietam
A fight that resulted in Union victory, the proclamation being written as law and General McClellan being replaced by someone more "competent" -
Emancipation Proclamation
This document set millions of slaves free through legal law. -

William T. Sherman made an assault all the way to the south's coast line burning everything in their path. -
