Compromise of 1850
In 1850 there was a compomise that added California as a free state. This caused trouble becuase now there are 16 free states and 15 slave states. There was now a new law which every runaway slave must be brought back to there owner and the northerns did not like this. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's cabin was a novel written by Harriett Beecher. The novel was made to show how bad the slave labor was and the cotton comes from the slaves. It made the North very mad. -
Nebraska and Kansas act
The Nebraska and Kansas act was basically an opening of new lands for settlement, and had the effect of repealing the Missouri Compromise of 1820 by allowing white male settlers in those territories to determine through popular sovereignty. -

Dred Scott
In 1857, the U.S Supreme Court decides on the issue of dividing the country between the people who favor slavery and those who oppose salvery. After the Supreme Court talked it over anywhere in the US can have slavery. -
Minnesota
Minnesotta becomes the 30th state and enters as a free state. -
Lincoln Douglass Debates
The Lincoln Douglas Debates was a debate between Abraham Lincoln who opposed slavery and Stephen Douglas supporter of slavery. Lincoln was not widely known at the time of this debate. This debate will soon play a huge role in the future because after this debate, Lincoln is widely kown and establishes himself as a leader of the Republican Party.This was a huge reason that Lincoln won the presidency. -

Oregon becomes the thirty third state and enters the Union as a free state in 1859 -

The Presidential Election of 1860 was crazy because a person that was pro slavery and a person who was anti slavery were running against eachother. -
Sucession of South Carolina
South Carolina was the first state to scede. They didn't want to be part of the Union anymore. South Carolina was really the leader because after they sceded many states followed.
