Lee had his entire army engaged in battle in order to hold off the Union soldiers. -

~The Emancipation Proclamation was an order given by Abraham Lincoln to free the slaves. ~The Emancipation Proclamation did eventually set millions of slaves free. It also made clear that in the near future all slaves should and would be set free. -
