National Remembrance and Mourning
The evening of September 11 the members of Congress sang God Bless America on the steps of the United States Capitol. The flags were at half-staff until September 22, 2001. People hung up flyers of their missing loved ones all over the city. -
President Bush Responds to the Attacks
At 9:29 in an elementary school in Florida President Bush made his first public statement. He said he would be leaving for Washington and had a moment of silence. At 1:04 a taped statement was released. He said the people responsible would be punished, asked for prayers for America, and to thank the first responders. At 8:30 President Bush addressed America from the White House in Washington D.C. -
The War on Terror is Declared
The war on terror is an international military campaign launched after the attacks. President Bush first said the term War on Terrorism on September 16, 2001. Then operation enduring freedom began on October 7, 2001. -
Civilians Respond and Help
After the attacks almost 36,000 units of blood were donated. Firefighters and police from across the country were sent to help. Lots of people donated money to charities to help victims and their families. -
Search and Rescue/Cleanup at Ground Zero
It took 8 months and 19 days for all the people to clean up the terrors attack that happened on September 11th, 2001. After they completed the cleaning, they had a ceremony not just for the families that had family in 9/11, but also to celebrate the finishing of the cleaning. There were only 20 people that were pulled alive from the rebel and the very last person that was pulled out was under the rebel for about 23 hours. Around 9:00 on September 12th, she finally heard someone coming for her. -
The Hunt for bin Laden
Bin Laden was born in the year 1957/1958 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He was the main leader of the terrors that crashed the planes into the twin towers, the pentagon and almost into the capital building in New York City on September 11th 2001. Before 9/11 he was also involved in other terrors attacks too. Those attacks were the bombing of Kenya, and Tanzania. -
War in Afghanistan
The war in Afghanistan started in October 7th, 2001 by the United States. This war has been going on from that day till now, the present time. The war all started because the United States wanted to let the people in Afghanistan have the freedom that we have but the government from Afghanistan didn't want them to have freedom so they decided to have a war till this day. -
USA PATRIOT ACT
The USA Patriot Act was signed into law on October 26, 2001. The act allows federal agencies to conduct searches and keep watch on people. There has been a lot of criticism of the act. -
Homeland Security Act
The United States Congress made the Homeland Security in the year of 2002. The reason that they decided to make the the homeland security a thing is because they wanted to make sure there were no terrors attacks that came into the airports in the united states area. It also helps to inform the government if there were to be a terrors attack of any kind in the area. -
War in Iraq
The war in Iraq started on March 20th, 2003 and ended December 18th, 2011. The war started because there was a problem that was lasting to long against Iraq and the United States the so the United States decided to overthrow the Iraq government. The conflict continued and got worse thought the next decade.
