The Russian's had faced defeat in the Franco Prussian war. they did not want to seem vulnerable to the other European countries.So then they had promise to aid in deference for France after they had known that Germany had declared France France wanted the Germans to mobilize immediately because they afraid of an attack from the Germans.Even though the Germans moved in pretty fast the Russians had a total of 5 million solders -
The beginning of WWI
One major event that started off the WWI was the killing of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.Even thought most of the general public didn't care much about the assassination.The killing did have an impact in the start of the war but Austria-Hungary had been looking for an excuse to invade Serbia and gain it land back that they had taken in the Balkan war.So then Germany had agreed to help in aid for the Austrians in the war. -
Alliances
The major powers of Europe were split into two alliances that would form the two sides of the war. Britain, France, and Russia formed the triple entente.Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy formed the triple alliances. These alliances were not the sole and cause of World War I but did play an important role in fastening the an Europe rush to conflict. -
Germany invades
Germany wanted to go through Belgium to get a strait attack at France and then they would declare war on France. They needed a clear passage through Belgium The Germans wanted this grant from Belgium and they sent a letter to the their government asking for the permission to pass through.If they said no then they would forcefully go through Belgium.This essential for them because it would for sure secure a victory for the Germans -
Gas
The Germans had used tear gas and phosgene, chlorine, and mustard gas in April 22 1915. The gas was a very effective weapon in WWI because the Germans were the first to do a major gas attack that pushed and devastated the allied line.Mustard gas was very cruel gas that would basically act like vapor acid and if it got int he lungs then it would blister the throat and lungs if it was inhaled in large quantities -
Tanks in WWI
The first tanks were first used by the British in Delville Wood.These tanks were good at breaking through barbed wire and setting a path for the infantry.Even tough the tanks were not always good because they would get stuck in the mud and just be left there or they would fall into the trenches.A "Female" tank was a tank that had multiple machine guns mounted n it and not a bunch of mixed machine guns and cannons like on the Mark 1 Tank -

Zimmermann Telegram
This was first created when a man named Arthur Zimmermann.He was supposed t send a message to mexico telling them to attack the united states.Thankfully it was intercepted and by the crack cryptographers from the British navy and the us that wanted nothing to do with the war had joined and declared war on Germany. -
Germany
Germany's ports had been closed be British navy which then meant that most people in Germany were starving and that their economy was collapsing.This had outraged most of the citizens in Germany and they were all planning for a massive strike in Berlin.There was a massive food shortage in Germany the point to were some 250,000 people had died from starvation.On January 28 1918 100,00 people had took to the streets of Berlin.Within a few days the total had gone up to 400,000 people. -
The End to WWI
AT 5 in the morning Germany was lacking manpower and supplies and were facing an invasion and it was actually a surrender of Berlin.At the end of the war nine million solders were dead and some 21 million were injured.Germany, Russia, Austria-Hungary, France and Great Britain each lost about million solders.At least 5 million died from starvation, and disease.
