    Amenhotep IV begins reign, it is speculated that he most likely assumed such role in 1353, successor to Amenhotep III.

    Marries Nerfititi

    They have six known daughters

    Aten Temples at Thebes

    Begins the erection of four temples dedicated to Aten, these were built in the religious center of Egypt, at the current capital of Thebes.

    Akhetaten

    Amenhotep IV begins to form the new city.
  • 1344 BCE

    Name Change

    Amenhotep IV changes his name to Akhenaten. Becomes apparent that the Aten is his superior god.

    Royal Tomb

    The Royal Tomb of Akhenaten begins the process of being built

    Government placement

    The government is officially moved to Akhetaten.

    An attempt to remove all traces or details of Re occurs. The Aten is emphasized as the singular, monotheistic god.
