Completes flying lessons and purchases first aircraft.

Jul 20, 1921

Amelia heard of a woman pilot who gave flying instructions and shortly afterwards began lessons with pioneer aviatrix Anita "Neta" Snook at Kinner Field near Long Beach. In July Amelia purchased a prototype of the Kinner airplane...naming it "The Canary".

Establishment of Ninety-Nines Organization

The "Ninety-Nines", a now famous women pilots organization, was formed by Amelia Earhart. Charter membership included 99 applicants. She was to serve as its first President.

Becomes the first woman to fly across the Atlantic solo.

May 21, 1932

Amelia Earhart describes her trip across the Atlantic first-hand.

Earhart flies across the Pacific solo.

Jan 12, 1935

Amelia's flight began in Hawaii and ended in California.

Amelia and navigator Fred Noonan begin the around-the-world flight.

Mar 17, 1937

Amelia begins her round-the-world flight in Oakland, California setting a record for east-west
(Oakland to Hawaii) travel in 15 hours and 47 minutes but the plane is damaged and needs repairs.
A second round-the-world attempt from Miami, Florida began in June.

Amelia Earhart disappears.
