Native Americans Take Sides-Smallpox
The Native Americans lives were majorly affected by the war and many of them were forced to choose sides. Some tried to avoid the fighting and moved their tribes farther away while others resorted to violence towards the Americans. Making matters worse, the small pob epidemic bagan. It first began with the american troops in Quebec in 1775, then spread along the east coast. by 1782 more than 130,000 people had died while only 8,000 people died from the actual fighting. -
Attack and retreat
In June of 1776 a British fleet arrived to New york. Wahington gathered his forces and was prepared for the attack but they were no match for Howe's large troop of 44,000 well trained soldiers. They fought but later had to retreat. -
Crossing the Deleware
Late christmas night General Washington led 2,400 men across the Delaware river. They huddled in their boats freezing from the cold spray from the river. They had such little supplies that some of the men didn't even have shoes! Once they crossed the river they had to cross the snowy mountains. To keep their feet from freezing they had to wrap their feet in dirty rags.They walked all night and early morning the next day they attacked Trenton and gained total victory! -
The French Alliance
France had always wanted to weaken Britian and went to very high extents to do so that they even secretly supplied the Americans with money and arms. After the Battle of Saratoga the French felt moved to help the Americans and in February of 1778 they became the first nation to sign a treaty with the United States. -
Defending the Frontier
Earky in 1779 Clark and his men made a long journey across 200 miles trudging through icy cold waters and snow covered plains. The attack caught the british by surprise and them along with their native american allies were eventually forced to surender. -
American Traitor
Arnold had fought loyally for the Patriots but he started to feel as though Congress didn't appreciate him. So as he decided to turn against them and join the British. In September of 1780 he was discovered as a traitor and later escaped. He and his loyalists then staged a series of raids in Virginia.
