The steamer "Laura" was the first to dock at the place which would soon be called Houston because of the Allen brothers. -

Funding
In the year 1910, the federal government began to provide funding so that they could build a ship channel that was four miles long east of Allen's landing. -
Memorial Park
In 1967, a memorial park was dedicated to be a memorial for John K. and Augustus Chapman Allen. The historical marker is found in downtown Houston in a two acre parksite. Improvements are currently being made to the park -
