Pirates captured Saint Patrick
In the 400 AD, when Patrick was 16 years old, some pirates captured him and brought him to Ireland. They sold him as a slave and he worked there a sephard for six years. One day, Patrick heard strange voices, he believed these voices came from God and started to convert pagan people into christianist. -

King James I sent protestants to Ireland
In 1607, King James I sent protestants to Ireland to take the land from the catholics. -
Potato famine
A fungus infected the potato crop and the potatoes became soft and started to descompose. The farmers had nothing to eat and more than one million people died from starvation. -
Emigrations from Ireland
Between 1846-1850 around 1 million Irish people emigrated to USA, Canada and England to scape the starvation and diseases of the potato famine. -
General Elections
In 1918 there was a general election where Sinn Fein won and they established their own parliament. -
Independence of Ireland
In 1921 Ireland was independent from Britain. Six counties in Northern Ireland remained under British control and the rest became the Irish Free State (later, the Republic of Ireland). -

The Troubles were three decades of violent conflicts between 1968 and 1998 in Northern Ireland. The Protestants there discriminated against the Catholic minority. In 1998 the war ended with the good friday agreement.
