    The Algerian Front de Liberation National (FLN) attacked government buildings in Algeria under the control of France in hopes of Algeria gaining their independence from the French. This war consisted of extreme guerilla warfare from the Algerian military who wanted diplomatic recognition and to become a sovereign state inspired by the end of both World Wars.

    Algeria joins the United Nations
    After the agreed upon obtained freedom of Algeria from the French in early 1962, later in the same year Algeria is not only recognized as a free sovereign state by the United Nations. Algeria joins the United Nations as an independent member of the organization after seven long years fighting in the Algerian War, won against the French due to lots of self-determination. Algeria became the 109th member of the United Nations.
