Al qaeda is formed at a meeting in Peshwar, Pakistan attended by al qadeas leader Osama Bin Laden and co-leader Ayman al-Zawahiri. Their goal is to spread Jihad and Sharia the strict religous law of Islam. -

U.S. angers Bin Laden
US forces enter Saudi Arabia to prepare for the Gulf War, which angers Bin Laden since he offered his mujahideen troops to defend the kingdom of Saddam Hussein. A year later Bin Laden is exiled from Saudi Arabia after making comments towards the royal family. He then moves to Sudan to begin conducting Al Qaeda attacks. -

Al Qaedas first US attack
The scale of Al Qaedas ambition becomes clear when they launch their first attack on the United States in New York where a bomb is set off in the parking garage at the World Trade Center killing 6 and injuring 1,000. Ramzi Yousef and co-conspirators are captured and arrested for the attack and are curretly searving life imprisoment. -

18 US servicemen are killed when when Al Qaeda fighters shoot down helicopters in Somalia. -
Kenya and Tanzania US embassy bombings
Hundreds of people are killed when al Qaeda operatives set off truck bombs at U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. Fazul Mohammed would be known as the planner behind the attack. -
USS Cole Bombing
A small craft driven by an al Qaeda operative is driven into the side of the USS Cole exploding creating a 40 foot hole in the side of the destroyer, killing 17 sailors and injuring 39. There was no response to attack by the U.S. -
9/11
In one of the worst acts of terroism ever commited on U.S. soil al Qaeda again attacks the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington D.C. by hijacking planes and crashing them into the bulidings collapsing the Trade Towers and destroying a section of the Pentagon, a fourth plane believed to be heading for the capital building also in D.C. was overtaken by the passengers on the plane and crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. 2,996 innocent people are killed. -

al Qaeda operatives put backpack bombs in commuter trains, killing 191 people and injuring 2050. -
London Bombings
52 are killed when public transport networks are targeted by suicide bombers in the biggest terrorist attack ever committed in the UK. The four bombers are all British-born Muslims who had spent time in remote 'training camps' in Pakistan. -
Danish Embassy Bombing
2 al Qaeda operatives set off a car bomb outside the Danish Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan killing 6 and wounding others. al Qaeda would claim responsiblitiy for the attack 3 days later. -
Christmas Day Bombing Attempt
An al Qaeda attack is foiled when passenger Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tries to set off plastic bombs sewn in his underwear, but the explovies arent properly set off only creating a small fire and smoke and is immediately arrested. Al Qaeda claims responsibility for the attack 3 days later in a statement, Umar is currently searving life in prison. -
Osama Bin Ladin killed
Osama Bin Ladin is killed by U.S. special teams forces during a raid in his compund in Abottobad, Pakistan. His body is buried at sea within 24 hours after his death. Al Zawarhi is said to be the new leader of al Qaeda and is still at large. -
Attack on U.S. Consulate in Benghazi
Al qaedas most recent attack came on September 11th of this year when the muslim extremists group Ansar al-Sharia attacked the U.S. Consualte building in Benghazi, Lybia killing the U.S. ambassador to Lybia and 3 other americans. -
Ayman al-Zawarhi statement
In a recent statement from al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawarhi, he urges muslims to wage a holy war against Israel and Americans for a YouTube video uploaded in early September that insulted the prophet Muhammed. The war against terroism and al Qaeda continues.
