    Prince Henry the Navigator

    Prince Henry the Navigator
    He became eager for Portuguese sailors to explore the west coast of Africa. In early 1400s, Henry set up the first European school for navigators in Sagres, Portugal. Also he worked with others to design and build better ships, the result was the Portuguese caravel.

    John Cobat
    John was a Italian navagatior, and in 1407 he took sail with a handful of men and explored the newfoundland and Nova Scotia then exstablished claims for england in the Americas.

    Bartolomeu Dias

    Bartolomeu Dias
    Readied ships for a long, hard voyage. Dias touched at several points on Africa's west coast before strong winds blew him southward. After the storm ended, Dias went on to reach Africa's east coast, without knowing his ships had been blown around the tip of the continent. He named southern tip of Africa the Cape of Storms.

    Christopher Columbus
    He believed the world was round, not flat.Also believed he could reach Asia by sailing west. He set sail from Spain in August, 1492, with three small ships, and a crew of about 90 sailors. He discovered Americas.

    Treaty of Tordesilllas
    The Treaty of Tordesillas was agreed upon by the Spanish and the Portuguese to clear up confusion on newly claimed land in the New World. The early 1400s brought about great advances in European exploration. In order make trade more efficient, Portugal attempted to find a direct water route to the India and China. By using a direct water route, Arab merchants, who owned land trade routes, were not able to make a profit off of the European trade merchants. After Columbus discovered the New World

    Amerigo Vespucci
    Amerigo Vespucci explored atlantic coast of south amerca, in 1497-1504. He was also the first one to belive he had reashed a new world.

    Vasco da Gama
    In summer of 1497, he led a convoy, or group, of four ships down the Tagus River from Lisbon, Portugal. On May 20, 1498, ship landed oat Calicut. But Arab and Persian feared that Portugal would take over the trade between Africa and India, so they attempt to kill da Gama. So he decide to left and reached to Lisbon at 1499.

    His country is Portugal, and he discovered Brazil and sailed east to India, at 1500-1501.

    Vasco Nunez de Balboa
    his country is Spain, and he was the first European to sight eastern shore of Pacific Ocean.

    Ponce de Leon
    He sailed north from the island of Puerto Rico to explore Florida. First there was a story that he was looking for island Puerto Rico, but he discovered Florida instead.

    Ferdinand Magellan

    Ferdinand Magellan
    In 1517, Portugal controlled the eastern route to the Indies, and Portugal was growing rich. It angered spanish king, so he let Ferdinand to find Spain a western route to the Indies. At 1519, with five ships and crew of 256, he commanded a fleet. He sailed through a storm strait at the tip of South America, He set a southwest course for the Philippine Islands, but he became involved in a local war and was killed.

    Hernan Cortez

    Hernan Cortez
    He was a Spanish Conquistador who defeated and conquered the Aztec Empire. He was solider and a farmer before he sailed for Diego Velasquez to help conquer Cuba in 1511. At 1519, Cortez reached tenochtitlan( now Mexico City) and was graciously received by Montezuma, the Aztec emperor. Later he seized Montezuma and forced him to surrender the attackers, then he had them executed.

    Giovanni Verrazano
    He was hired by freanch to find the northwest passage. He sailed along the atlantic coast from north carolina to New York.

    Francisco Pizarro
    He invaded Peru. Also within five years, he conquered the Inca Empire. Also he took great treasure of gold and silver from the Native Americans.Then Pizarro and his men headed for the coast, there they built Lima, the "City of Kings".

    Eleven years after giovanni cartier a freanch navagtior sailed up the lawrence river as far as a presnet-day montreal. This gave the French a claim to Eastern Canada.

    Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca
    His country is spain and he explored Florida and Gulf region fom Texas to Mexico at 1528-1536.

    Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo

    Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo
    In 1542, Cabrillo led the first European expedition to explore what is now the west coast of the United States. The Gulf of California had recently been explored by Francisco de Ulloa, Hernando de Alarcón and Domingo del Castillo, proving that California was not an island.

    Sir Francis Drake
    He ruled england, he was the first Englishman to sail in the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, and south of the Atlantic Ocean. He also was the first Englishman to sail around the world, and was the first European to see the west coast of Canada, in 1577 to 1580.
  • John Davis

    John Davis
    Davis explored the Northwest Passage, and although he was convinced that a passage existed, he was unsuccessful because of the ice. Nevertheless, he rediscovered Greenland in 1585.
  • Henrey Hudson

    Henrey Hudson
    Henry Hudson was a very good navigator and sailor who named and explored Hudson Bay in Canada and the Hudson River in America. His quest was to find a shortcut from Europe to the Far East. Hudson was from England, but nothing is known about his life before 1607.
