Gum
Through out the book Jem and Scout find these little items or gifts in knot holes."One afternoon as I raced by, something caught my eye and caught it in such a way that I took a deep breath, a long look around, and went back" (Lee 44). They found two pieces of gum and some loot later on in the book. The knot hole keeps on making an appearance again and again. We can infer that someone is leaving those items there for them and they start to question themselves on who it could be. -

Indian Heads
Scout and Jem find two Indian heads in the same knot hole they found the gum. "Jem flicked open the tiny catch. Inside were two scrubbed and polished pennies, one on top of the other" (Lee 46). There are items that keep on making an appearance in the knot hole but the items are different but the knot hole is the same, so its appearing again and again. The way the characters developed is when they found this is thought it represented good luck. The word choice also creates a mysterious mood. -

Boo Radley rumors
In chapters 1-11 Boo Radley is accused and badley talked about when no one really knows of what he did for sure. Like how "He dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch." "His hands were bloodstained because once you ate a raw animal the blood would not wash off ( chapter 1). And there are many more but all these assumptions were kept on being told to Scout but they are not true.
