    Creation of Israel
    The United Nations Recognized Israel as it's own independent state from Palestine after many years of fighting. This division of Palestian for the Jewish homeland caused another attack by six Islamic states. Fighting between Islamic states and Israelis continued several years while the PLO pushed for a formation of a Palestinian state.

    Berlin Airlift

    The Berlin airlift began in 1948 after the Soviets cut off all traffic and water to West Berlin hoping Allies would give up their idea of reunifying Germany. American and British officials flew in supplies for 11 months having a plane land every three minutes. The soviets eventually gave up and lifted the blockade in 1949.

    Korean War

    75,000 soldier from North Korea passed through the 38th parallel. This was the border between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in the North and the pro-Western Republic of Korea in the South. It was the first military action of the Cold War.
  • Launch of Sputnick

    Launch of Sputnick
    The Sputnick, which was launched by the Soviets, was the first unmanned satellite launched into space. It used an intercontinental ballistic missile which caused the U.S to respond by putting money into their own science education later launching their own satellite in 1958.

    SALT Talks
    The SALT Talks were when President Nixon visited the Soviet Union. SALT stands for the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks. They limited the number of Intercontinental ballistic missles or ICBMs a country could have.
  • Assassination of Egyptian President Sadat

    Assassination of Egyptian President Sadat
    While Egypt was celebrating it's Armed Forces Day to commemorate its success of its surprise attack on Israel, Islamic Nationalists opened fire and threw grenades at stands at the celebration. The war had been strengthening and Sadat was about to launch his next attack before the assassination happened.

    Tiananmen Square protest

    These protests were lead by students who wanted a political reform for a Democracy. During protests there were many boycotts to grab the attention of the government and media. The government sent in troops to disengage the protestors which eneded the Tiananmen Square protest.
  • Ayatollah Khomeini is Supreme Leader of Iran

    Khomeini became Supreme Leader of Iran in 1989. He encouraged Muslim radicals to overthrow secular governments which created tension with Iraq. He took 60+ American hostages for 444 days after he approved of revolutionaries seizing the u.s embassy in Tehran.

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was built by East Germans to seperate East and West Berlin. This symbolized the world divided into rival camps. The wall was later torn down when the new leader of East Germany attempted to restore stability by allowing people to leave which caused the collapse of the Communist Party
  • Assassination of Israeli Prime Minister

    Assassination of Israeli Prime Minister
    Israels Prime Minister Rabin was assassinated on November 4, 1995. He was assassinated by an Israeli Nationalist who opposed Rabins peace initiative and the signing of the Oslo Accords.
