    Exploration of Africa

    The geography of North Africa has been well known since classical antiquity in Greco-Roman geography. The exploration of Sub-Saharan Africa began with the Age of Discovery in the 15th century. It was pioneered by kingdom of posts along the coast while they were actively exploring and colonizing Africa.

    The age of exploration started in the late 1400's and continued to the early 1700's (Loosly dated). European ships would travel around the world to search for new trading routes as well as trading partners. It became a part of European culture. During this time period, many places that were previously unknown were founded.

    Asante was a kingdom. It occupied the area that is now Ghana.The Asante kingdom needed to be unfied, so their military leader Osei Tutu, won control of several trading kingdoms around the Asante kingdom. Tutu was chosen by merit instead of birthright.Tutu claims that the people in the kingdom were linked by spiritual bonds.

    Industrial revolution

    The industrial revolution was the process of changing from an agrarian, handicraft economy to one dominated by industry and machine manufacturing. The process began in britain in the late 1700's and then spread to other parts of the world. Arnold Toynbee was the first to call it 'industrial revolution' to describe Britains technological developement.The main features involved in the Industrial Revolution were technological, socioeconomic, and cultural.
  • Arkwrights water frame

    Arkwrights water frame was a water powered device created by Richard Arkwright. The device produced cotton yarn. He got help from many of his friends. Together they opened many factories. After a few years Arkwright was operating many cotton yarn production factories.
  • Origin of species

    In 1859 Charles Dawin released a book called On Origin of Species in Britain. Darwin said that all animals evolved into what they are now over millions of years. Many people didn't like this theory, especially religious people.
