Adolescent Timeline

  • 4th Grade

    4th Grade
    • Was very behind in reading
    • Started to take an interest in reading
    • Teacher would "tease us" with reading a book in class
    • Variety of books such as Charlotte's Web, Junie B. Jones, and Esperanza Rising
    • To build a sense of community we preformed quite a few small plays
  • 5th Grade

    5th Grade
    • Popcorn reading -Books: My Wartime Summers, Maniac McGee, Where the Red Fern Grows, Old Yeller
    • Reading Logs for six flags tickets
    • Teacher talks
    • Started to take an interest in writing
  • 6th Grade

    6th Grade
    • Grouped reading and note taking
    • Not a lot of intrapersonal exercises in elementary in general
    • Books: Island of the Blue Dolphins, the rest of the books were forgettable for me
    • Started writing poetry on my own
    • At this point I realized that reading and writing didn't have to just be school subjects
  • 7th Grade

    7th Grade
    • Catching up to my grade level in English
    • Started having more intrapersonal exercises
    • Book clubs and book reviews (posters, pamphlets, something physical) Interpersonal
    • Books: Diary of Anne Frank, Wringer, The Search for Delicious
    • Made hot chocolate :)
  • 8th Grade

    8th Grade
    • We kept Journals in class - had the opportunity to share
    • Books: To Kill a Mocking Bird and Big Mouth and Ugly Girl, How the Garcia Girls Lost their Accents
    • Frequently stopped to talk about our feelings and frustrations towards the book, lots of tears and frustrations
    • Discovered a love for classic Literature

    Freshman - Senior year
    - Books: Passing, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, The Great Gatsby, The fault in our stars, The Bluest eye, The Things they Carried
    - Finally joined a book club and a writing club
    - Teachers would recommend books to me personally based off my interests
  • Future Classroom

    Future Classroom
    Goals:
    - I want my classroom to feel more like a home than a classroom.
    - I want to be able to inspire my students to read different genres and novels.
    - I hope to build real relationships with my students to help them even on a personal level.
    - I want to get my students to know that reading and writing aren't just school subjects.
    - I want to teach my students how to take notes and how to read difficult texts.
