    While chldren are in elementary school they typically grow 2-3 inches per year. By the age of 11, girls are normally taller than boys during this period of growth. Its usually the only time girls are taller than boys. During middle childhood, its a great time to create healthy eating and excercising habits to prevent children from becoming obese. On average children at this age gain 5-6 pounds per year. It's good to make sure they are gaining healthy weight.

    This chronic condition effects millions of children. They suffer from wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath from time to time. Asthma occurs when air is trying to get to the lungs and are restricted in the airways, blocking air to get where it needs to be. Treatment for asthma can help reduce the symptoms tremendously.   • Motor Skills

    Motor Skills
    Middle chidlhood, children begin developing skills they haven't been able to learn. Like ice-skating, typing on a computer, writing in cursive and skipping a rope. A couple reasons this happens is because muscle coordination is developed, and myelin is increasingly being produced in the brain. Myelin protects the nerve cells by providing insulation for the cells.

    As technology develops more and more everyday. Children are falling victim to the disadvantages the internet holds. Children shouldn't be allowed to have access to the internet without restrictions enable on the computer. Sometimes though children are still able to access websites they shouldn't be on. You should remind children not to provide personal information to people online, never plan get togethers online, and never send pictures online. Remind them to stay on children websites.

    As a parent, I'm constantly worried about things happeing to my child. I've always feared kidnapping or a serious illness to harm my child. But after reading the textbook, it states 4 out of 100,000 children die from automobiles between ages 5-9. And the fires/burns and drowning follow closely to automobile accidents. Also, children who walk home alone are increasing their chances of being in an accident. To lower the chances of this from happening, always make sure they were their seatbelts.

    Puberty has been linked to a couple different factors cultural and environment.Girls tend to hit this stage around 11-12 years of age, and boys being around 13-14 years of age. During this developemental stage, boys and girls go through primary and secondary sex characteristics. Primary sex characteristics involve organs of the body relating to reproduction.   • Sleep Deprivation

    Sleep Deprivation
    Teens are required to get at least 9 hours of sleep. But their internal clocks are set to be more awake during thr night hours. Unfortunately, majority of teens are required to attend school early in the morning. That obviously causes conflicts already. But if teens dont receive enough sleep, it can cause low grades, depression, modd swings, and the risk of them getting hurt in car accidents.

    Abuse of alcohol and illegal drugs
    Teens are likely to be introduce to drugs and alcohol. If they chose to do them or not is ultimately their choice. The reasons they may choose to participate in this behavior are they enjoy the experience, they like the thrill of disobeying the law, peer pressure, and escapes from their responsibilities.     Most teenagers go through 3 stages of trying to decide what they want their career to be. The first stage is fantasy perioud, this is when they choose a career without considering their skills, abilities or the job demand.Second stage is when they being thinking of the requirements of the jobs they choseand if their abilities may qualify.
