Lincoln Assassinated
Abe Lincoln was assassinated on April 14th, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth. It would changed the United States of America from then on. Booth was eventaully caught the next day but was shot by a solider. Rest of the conspirators were either hanged or served life in prison. It changed how the president does things. -
Social Security
It was signed by FDR on August 14th, 1935. It gave people who otherwise couldn't afford it a chance to get some beneftis. It gave people who were the right age to get benefits. -
McCarthy Hearings
The McCarthy hearings were hearings held by Senate between April 1954 and June 1954. The Army accused chief committee counsel Roy Cohn of pressuring the Army to give preferential treatment to G. David Schine. It changed how the US and its miltary acted towards each other. -
Brown vs. Board of Education
It was a Supreme court case in which the government told the state governments to make a public school for blacks and whites. It was later voted on and was turned into a law on May 17th, 1954. -
Gideon vs. Wainwright
The case was decided on March 18, 1963. The Supreme Court ruled that state courts have to provide counsel in criminal cases for defendants who are unable to afford to pay their own attorneys. It would change how the court systems work from them on. -
Civil Rights Act of 1965
It was passed by the US Congress and President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965 to to give African Americans the right to vote. Congress wanted the Act to requiring otherwise qualified voters to pass literacy tests in order to register to vote. It would give african americans the right to vote. -
Richard Nixon resignation
President Richard Nixon resigned as a result of the Watergate Scandel. It was when somebody broke in to the Democratic National Committee in Washington D.C. He could have told everybody on TV, but he didn't. Nixon could have either been impeached or resigned. He was the only president ot resign. It would change how the president acts. -
Clinton Impeached
Bill Clinton, who was the 42nd President of the Unted States , was impeached by the House on tthe charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, on December 19, 1998. The charges came about from the Lewinsky scandel and the Paula Jones lawsuit. Clinton was not convicted at his impeachment trial. 50 out of 100 voted guilty in the Senate. He needed 17 more votes to be acquitted by the Senate. -
Terrorist attacks
On Septemeber 11th, 2001 Al-Queda hijacked planes targeting New York City, the Pentagon, and the White Hosue. One of the planes was overrunned by the passengers and crashed in a field. Two of the planes were targeted the World Trade Center and both of them hit them, both of the buildings burned down in New York City. The other plane targeted the Pentagon and made it to it, crashed into it, and caused a lot of damage. To this day it is the worst terrorist of all time. -
Medicaid
A health program for certain people and families with low incomes and resources. It is run by the state govenments. The bill was signed by President Bush on February 8th, 2006. It gives people the opportunity to get health insurance.
