  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    After the British won the 7 Years War and gained land in North America, the act was created stating that in order to prevent conflicts with the Indians the region west of the Appalachian Mountains would not be settled by the colonists. The colonists were angry since they helped fight in the French and Indian War they are not allowed to live on the land west of the Appalachian Mountains. Therefore, the colonists didn't listen to the British and still move west of the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Parliament passed this act in order to get money from the colonists by taxing items that were not British goods being shipped to the colonies. This was the first law that specifically aimed to raise colonial money for Britain. The colonists reacted to the Sugar Act by writing protests, conducting boycotts, smuggling increased, complaints to Parliament increased and shouting “No taxation without representation”.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    Parliament passed this act to prohibit colonial governments from having the power to distribute paper money and required that all taxes and debts be paid in British currency of pounds. The colonists were angry because this act caused the colonists difficulty to conduct business. Therefore, the colonists began to protest against this act.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    Parliament passed this act to declared that they would have the power to make laws that would govern the colonists. Since they repealed the Stamp Act the Declaratory Act was an attempt for Britain to gain its control back over the colonies.The colonists were happy since the Stamp Act got repealed and ignored the Declaratory Act as if the Act did not exist and continued to protest other British laws.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The act required the colonial governments to put British soldiers in people’s homes that would have to be responsible for them. The colonists were angry and resented the idea of having to house soldiers in their homes while also providing them things they need. The colonists began to talk to one another about how angry and how they resented the Quartering Act. Eventually the colonists once again did not follow the acts instructions.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Required a tax stamp on everyday items the colonists used such as legal documents, almanacs, pamphlets, playing cards, dice and newspapers. The colonists began to react by assembled violent protests, and created the Stamp Act Congress which met and boycotting the British goods began which was being enforced by the Sons of Liberty.
  • Townshend Act(s)

    Townshend Act(s)
    Parliament passed this act in order to get money from the colonists by taxing them on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. This act also gave the British Officials the right to search colonists homes and businesses, and create new courts to prosecute smugglers.The colonists reacted by spreading letters protesting against the act and continued to boycott the British goods which lead to trade being cut in half. They were also angry since they didn't have representation in Parliament.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre took place between the colonists and the British soldiers which began as a snow ball fight and the colonists shouting insults at the soldiers. This ultimately led to the British soldiers firing at the colonists which resulted in 5 deaths and 6 people with injuries. The colonists reacted by coming to the realization of how dangerous it was to have the British soldiers in the colonies.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Parliament passed this act with an intention to benefit the East India Company by providing them with a monopoly of the American colonies tea market. This also allowed the profits from the colonies to help bail Britain out of debt. Colonists thought that this tax was another act where colonists were being taxed without representation in Parliament. This led to colonists to be angry and protest one particular well known protest is the Boston Tea Party where ship full of tea was destroyed.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Parliament passed the Tea Act with an intention to benefit the East India Company by providing them with a monopoly of the American colonies tea market. This led to angry colonists for being taxed without representation in Parliament which led to the Boston Tea Party. The colonists destroyed a ship full of tea by dumping 342 chests of tea into the harbor. Some colonists were happy that they took this action against Britain while others were not because they knew there would be consequences.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts consisted of 5 different acts the Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act, Quartering Act and the Quebec Act. Each of these acts consisted of a different responsibility. The colonists were angry about this which this led to the creation of the First Continental Congress where all of the colonists were united.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    The Quebec Act enlarged French Quebec to cover the area as far west as the Mississippi River and as far south as the Ohio River. This act was meant to meet the needs of the French colonists more efficiently and it reestablished the Canadian Borders for trade. The colonists viewed this act as an extension of the Proclamation of 1763 act and the British take away more land. The colonists were angry because it stopped their western expansion while allowing the French Catholic institutes in Quebec.
  • Boston Port Act

    Boston Port Act
    The Boston Port Act was a response from Parliament stating that the Boston port would be closed until all of the tea that was destroyed in the Boston Tea Party was paid back for. The colonists were angry since it meant more taxes they had to pay Parliament and that they could not import or export any goods to or from other nations.
