    Acts Leading up to the Revolutionary War

    The British were trying to repay their debts that they had to take out during the French Indian War, So the colonists were hit with fees and taxes for their everyday items, which went to paying back the British's debt.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    To stop smuggling of sugar illegally in the Colonies, and to increase the revenue for the crown, Parliament passed an act that regulated the sale of sugar, and put a small tax on it.

    Quartering Act
    To protect the British's interest in the colonies, troops were sent over to protect the colonies from any remaining Frenchmen and Native Americans. The colonists were required to provide room and board the soldiers, it was the law to house these men, if any sort of refusal, the colonists could of have criminal charges.

    The Stamp Act
    The colonists complained very much about the Sugar Act. So, he decided to take a different approach, with the stamp act, this was the first and only tax colonists had to pay themselves. The Prime minister believed it was fair because it affected most of the colonists.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    By 1767 the colonists were pretty unhappy about all the taxes imposed by the British. To address the frustration of the colonists the Parliament passed the Townhends Act. The Townhends Act placed soliders at different posts, to stop the illegal smuggling of goods.

    Tea Act of 1773
    To ease some of the tensions in the colonies, Parliament repealed the taxes on imported goods. At this time tea was a popular drink in the colonies, to avoid paying taxes many people smuggled tea in the colonies. The East India Tea Company was based in Britian and they were in serious financial trouble, Parliament wanted to help with the financial trouble by granting them a monopoly of tea over the colonies.

    The news of the Boston Tea Party quickly made it's way to the King. The King realized that he was losing control over the colonies, he said ''We must master them or leave them to themselves.'' The Prime Minister decided to punish the colonists in Massachusetts by making it illegal to cause in sort of trouble in the Boston harbor area, and making it illegal to destroy any of the East India Tea Companies tea.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    This act basically stated that all of land in colonies actually belonged to the crown of Great Britain. The act said that all territories and their boundaries are the crown's property.
