Acts from 1770-1774.

  • Townshend Act Repealed

    The British parliament repealed the Townshend on all things but tea. the British government realized their policy was not working based on falling colonial imports and raising opposition.
  • Boston Massacre

    A street fight that occurred between a patriot mob, throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks, and a squad of British soldiers. The riot began when 50 citizens attacking a British sentinel. A British officer, Captain Thomas Preston, called in additional soldiers, and these too were attacked, so the soldiers fired into the mob, killing 3 on the spot and wounding 8 others, two of whom died later.The Boston Massacre caused Britain to completely re-evaluate its goals for its colonial empire.
  • The Battle of Alamance

    This was the final battle of the War of Regulation. The regulators fought because of Unfair taxation, dishonest and corrupt government officials, and the lack of representation. They wanted better regulations of government officials and more control of their own affairs.
  • The Gaspee Affair

    The Sons of Liberty baited Lieutenant Duddington into shallow water and fifty-five men that had been planning the attack, raided looted, and burned his ship, the Gaspee. The attackers did not receive any punishment and the Sons of liberty did this because he was not treating them right relating to their goods.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party was a political protest. The American colonists were frustrated and angry at Britain for imposing “taxation without representation,” so they dumped 342 chests of tea, imported by the British East India Company into the harbor. The colonist were upset so this showed the British government that they wouldn't take taxation without representation and fought for their independence.
  • Coercive Act (Intolerable acts)

    A package of five laws with the purpose to restore authority in British colonies and punish Bostonians for their Tea Party. the five acts include the The Boston Port Act,The Massachusetts Government Act,Administration of Justice Act,Quartering Act, and the the Quebec Act. in response colonies rushed to the city’s defense, sending supplies and forming their own Provincial Congresses to discuss British misrule and mobilize resistance to the crown.
