Boston Massacre
-Colonists were protesting the Townshend Acts & a soldier was arguing with protestors. As tensions rose, colonists started harassing & throwing sticks at this soldier. More colonists came & they all started daring the soldiers to shoot them. Soldiers got fed up with this behavior and shot into the crowd, killing 5 people.
- Colonists led several rebellions against Britain, the most notable being the Boston Tea Party. The Boston Massacre made colonists resent Britain even more. -
Boston Tea Party
Americans were mad at Britain because of “taxation without representation” and dumped pounds of tea into the river.
The Boston Tea Party was the first real sign of the colonists revolting against the British. Obviously the British didn't like this so this eventually led to the American Revolution because the colonists had caused alot of property damage to Britiain by ruining their tea. -
The Intolerable/Coercive Acts
-This was a direct response from the gov’t to the Boston Tea Party. These laws were named Intolerable by the colonists because of their sheer absurdity. The Boston Port bill closed the Boston harbor until the tea was paid for. This threatened the very economy of Boston. Other restrictions include banning town meets and putting restrictions on local authority.
-These acts led to an even stronger hatred for Great Britain and this eventually led to the American Revolution. -
The Administration of Justice/ Murder Act
This act allowed the governor of Massachusetts basically let royal officials "off the hook" for capital crimes that they would be otherwise imprisoned or killed for doing.
American colonists were rightfully outraged that these officers could be let go from committing capital crimes and this also lead to the creation of the Declaration of Rights and Grievances.
