Navigation Acts
Purpose: Directed trade between England and the colonies.
Outcome: Colonists began to smuggle. -
Proclamation Act of 1763
Purpose: Prohibit colonists from moving west of the Appalachian Mountains.
Outcome: More conflicts erupted because it angered the colonists. They ignored their land claims. -
Sugar Act
Pupose:Lowered the tax on imported molasses.
Outcome: The colonists got angry and protested. They believed that these actions violated their rights as English citizens. -
Stamp Act
Pupose: Taxed all pritnted material.
Outcome: Colonists boycotted and Sons of Liberty was formed to protest this act. It was later repealed. -
Declaratory Act
Purpose: Stated that Parliment had the right to tax and make desicions for the British colonies.
Outcome: Colonists did not like that Parliament was in charge. -
Townshend Act
Purpose: New taxes on tea, glass, paper, and other goods.
Outcome: Angered colonists and they boycotted again. Women formed the Daughters of Liberty. -
Tea Act
Purpose: Allowed British East India to control trade for tea in America.
Outcome: There was a boycott on tea and the Boston Tea Party. -
Coercieve Acts
Purpose: Punish the people of Massachusetts for resisting the British laws.
Outcome: Colonists expressed their feelings. -
Quebec Act
Purpose: Set up a government for Quebec. It gave Quebec land west of the Appalachian mountains.
Outcome: Colonists could not get land they had bought.
