Act V

  • begin scene 1

    begin scene 1
    scene opens with two grave diggers complaining about the grave they're digging for ophelia. The arguement is over whether or not the girl deserves a christian burial.
  • Period: to

    Act V Hamlet

    I know the scene doesnt take place over a year but we'll use a years time span as a relevance to when everything happened within the act.
  • Hamlet enters

    Hamlet and Horatio enter the grave digging scene. Hamlet is adgetate by the grave diggers nonchalant attitude towards his job. He approaches the grave digger to talk and asks questions about who's grave it is. Keep in mind Hamlet is still unaware of Ophelia's passing.
  • Yorick's skull

    Yorick's skull
    The grave digger (unaware that he is talking to THE young Hamlet) pulls Yorick's head from the grave. Yorick was the Old Hamlet's jester and a good friend to Young Hamlet. This makes Hamlet pretty sad.
  • Funeral begins

    Laertes, Claudius, Gertrude, and Priest all enter to begin Ophelias funeral. Laertes and the priest get into a spat about the funeral arangements. The Queen is saying her adieus.
  • Laertes makes scene

    They are just about ot burry Ophelia when Laertes jumps in the grave and rambles on about how much he loved her and how he will miss her and basically throws his greif in everyone's faces. During this time Hamlet also realizes that it is Ophelia that is to be buried.
  • Hamlet comes forward

    Hamlet sees this scene that Laertes has just made and steps forward and begins to argue with Laertes about how he loved Ophelia more than him and would do anything dramatic that Laertes would do and even more.
  • Laertes and Hamlet fight

    Laertes and Hamlet fight
    Laertes is upsest by Hamlets words. The two get physical and Hamlet continues to yell at Laertes. Gertrude tries to break them up. Hamlet storms off.
  • Claudius settles the matter

    Claudius sends Horatio after Hamlet. He reassures Laertes that their "problem" will be "delt with" soon enough and to keep in mind the plan that they set. the problem is Hamlet and the solution is his assasination. Scene 1 ends.
  • Scene 2 begins

    Scene 2 opens with Horatio and Hamlet in the library discussing what Hamlet did with the letter that he found on the ship and how Hamlet got home. Hamlet had changed the letter to swithc the execution form Hamlet to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.
  • Osric enters

    Osric enters
    Osric comes with news that the king has wagered a bet against Laertes that Hamlet is able to beat him at a fencing match.
  • Hamlet accepts challenge

    Hamlet is reluctant to accep the challenge knowing that Laertes is a better fencer than he. Horatio advises Hamlet not to fight, but Hamlet is under the impression that whatever is meant to happen will happen and it is not in his hands but in God's hands.
  • Hamlet apologizes / Poisoned blade and pearl

    Hamlet apologizes / Poisoned blade and pearl
    Before their fencing match 1. Laertes picks up a blade that is poisoned while Claudius puts the poisoned pearl into the cup that Hamlet is supposed to drink from and 2. Hamlet sincerely apologizes to Laertes for everything that he has done to Laertes's family but Laertes respectfuly tells Hamlet that in self respect he cannot forgive him but that he will accpet his apology.
  • Laertes is losing

    Over the course of the duel Hamlet has accumulated 2 hits and it beggins to appear the Laertes and Claudius's plan is falling appart.
  • Gertrude drinks poison

    Gertrude drinks poison
    In honor of her son doing so well during his duel Gertrude decides to drink from the cup with the pearl. Claudius attempts to stop her but she drink regardless. She collapses.
  • Laertes attacks

    without regard to the collapse of the Queen Laertes attacks Hamlet and strikes Hamlet with the sword causing a scratch and releasing the poison into Hamlets blood stream and sealing his fate
  • Sword switch / Plan backfire

    During their ongoing battle Hamlet and Laertes switch swords and Hamlet manages to scratch Laertes with the poisoned sword. Laertes collapses. Hamlet is confused.
  • Laertes confession

    While on the ground Hamlet's mother tells Hamlet that whatever was in the cup was what killed her. Laertes laying on the ground behind Hamlet presumes to confess that it was the poisoned pearl and also that the blade that Hamlet was holding had poison on it and that both Hamlet and Laertes were dead men. He continued to tell Hamlet that it was all Claudius's idea.
  • Hamlet kills Claudius

    Hamlet kills Claudius
    Claudius makes a break for it and Hamlet stops him by throwing his sword at claudius and wounding him. He proceeds to hunt force Claudius to drink in vengeance of his mother. Claudius dies.
  • Final conversation Hamlet / Laertes / Horatio

    In his dying words Laertes tells Hamlet that he forgives him and does not blame him for the things that happened to his family. Hamlet returns the love and tells Laertes he will see him soon in heaven. Hamlet then tells Horatio that he needs to stay alive and share the true story of Young Hamlet. Horatio says he will kill himself too. Hamlet plees with him not to and begs him to stay alive and share his story. Hamlet passes away.
  • Fortinbras scene

    Fortinbras scene
    Fortinbras and his army enter to a horific scene confused and in search of answers. Horatio tells Fortinbras that Hamlet basicaly gave his kingdom to Fortinbras on his death bed. English Ambassador enters with news of Rosencrantz and Guildensterns deaths. Horatio asks Fortinbras to give Hamlet a proper respectful burial and Fortinbras agrees in respect to Hamlet and admeration for the way he figuratively battled at the end of his life and for the bravery that Hamlet displayed.
  • Hamlet Funeral/End of Act V

    Hamlet Funeral/End of Act V
    Fortenbras's soldiers cary Hamlet on their shoulders through a winter scene. Very respectful soldiers burial. Soldiers music is played to honor Hamlet and pay him some respect for his well lived life.
