Abstract Expressionsim
Abstract Expressionsim artists wanted to undermine the traditional methods and ways of painting. Pollock and de Kooning did this in their action painting method which allowed the paint to function as purely paint. There was also a focus on representing the unconsious in art. The action painting of Pollock and the Color Field technique of Rothko were two prominent methods of creating art at this time. They worked to create a sense of the sublime in their art. -
End of WWII
The devestating WWII ended and thrust America into a drastically different post-war world that had an impact on the art created. -
