    The Birth Of Charles V
    Charles reigned upon many nations starting at the age of 19 for empires including Rome, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Netherllands. This Catholic man was the first king of Spain and had an empire nearly four million square kilometers. This man is also known for his opposition of the Protestant Reformation.

    Birth of Ivan IV

    Also known as Ivan the Terrible, he ruled in Russia starting in 1533. He created a central govenment and ruled with dominance. He is believed to be mentaly ill, with many violent outbreaks. His reign lasted 54 years and left the state in ruin.

    This was a very important event because Charles was fighting for his religion and called Martin Luther an outlaw. This is why he was a Roman emperor as well because Rome was for the most part completely Catholic

    Ivan IV had St Basil’s Cathedral constructed

    Ivan had this built because Basil impressed Ivan in 1547 when he predicted a fire that swept through Moscow that year. Ivan had the architect blinded in order to prevent him from building a more magnificent building for anyone else.

    Death of Charles V

    Charles left the Netherlands for Spain and lived near monestery of Yuste until he died of malaria. Charles did things such as he overextended his budget with expensive military campaigns in Europe. He also ruled the Spanish Empire at a time when Spain conquistadors occupied almost all the land between Texas and the tip of South America with the exception of Brazil.

    Ivan, being obsessed with death called on witches to heal him when his health was in decline but it didn't work. He ended up dying of a heart attack. Ivan was an absolute monarchbecasue of the way he ruled, with fear and all by himself. He changed Russia into a more centralized region, reformed the church and changed taxation. During his reign he brought in large parts of land and showed military dominance.

    Birth of Louis XIV
    He reigned for 72 years, 54 of them he personally controlled French government. French culture became one of the most appealing in the world. The counrty changed from being in savage mediaeval to more refined. He was capable of maintaing a strong kingdom but never doubted his right to be the king.
  • The Birth of Peter the Great

    Peter the Great reigned as czar of all Russia from 1682-1721 and emperor of Russia from 1721-1725. Through a number of successful wars he was able to expand his empire greatly. He led a cultural revolution that replaced some of the traditional and medieval social and political systems. Instead he replaced them with modern and scientific which were based on The Enlightenment.
  • Louis XIV cancels Edict of Nantes

    Louis slows down the economy of France. He cancels the Edict of Nantes, which protects religious rights of Huguenots, who were FRench Protestants. Because of this action skilled workers and buisnessmen fled the country. Louis did not like their religion - protestants.
  • Birth of Frederick William

    Fredrick William also know as 'Soldier King' did some great things for Prussia. His goal was to centralize and improve Prussia. To do this he did things such as an annual tax, established primary schools, and resettled East Prussia from the plague in 1709.

    Peter envoked on the 'European tour' in an attempt to win aid and assistance from Western European monarchs. His dream was to modernize Russia. This is an example of absolute monarchy because he is making the decision to make Russia more modern based on European standards which involves changing an entire nation.
  • The Plague

    This is the approximate date that the plague was first reported in a Prussian villiage. This affected all of Prussia and Fredrick William made the decision to try rebuilding Prussia as best he could.
  • Death of Louis XIV

    Louis died of gangrene just a few days before his 77th birthday, making his 72 year reign the longest of the European monarchs. He reshaped France by using mercantilism to follow the economic policies. He also led the military by himself, this caused many wars but a gain of some land. He was God's representative on earth and he controlled the church alone.
  • Peter the Great's Death

    During Peter's reign he did many things with his power such as changing reforms. One was that now the ruler could choose his heir. This was pointless for him because he died before he got the chance of choosing an heir. He also did things such as raising taxes and also introduced things such as the newspaper.
  • Death of Fredrick William

    He had a very firm rule as a monarch is many ways such as how he practiced rigid economy, never started war, and at his death there was a large surplus in the royal treasury. He did intervene in the Northern War but gained very little land and he made. Because he ruled firmly he was able to improve Prussia out of its depression.
  • Absolute Monoarchs

    All of these absolute monarchs had a few things in common but one stood out the most. That is that they ruled with selfishness. Each one knew what they wanted and almost all of them got it. Not many people cared what the country wanted becasue why would they care what the people want when they can do whatever they want because of their position. Some of the differences they had were the ways they used their power and the things they gained or changed. Some used their power for war and violence.
