    Abraham Lincoln, signed an act abolishing slavery in the district of Columbia. It was 'An important step in the long march towards freedom, citizenry & equal rights for African-Americans. This made many southerners get angry that he was going to abolish slavery everywhere.

    Lincoln was re-elected in 1864. He was re-elected while the Civil war was about to end. He beat McClellan in the re-election for the presidency.

    On April 14, 1865, president Abraham Lincoln signed legislation creating the U.S. Secret Service. Later that day he was shot at Ford’s Theatre. Even if the Secret Service had been established earlier, it wouldn’t have saved Lincoln. In 1901 after two more presidents die did the secret service get assigned to protecting the president.

    Abraham lincoln was assassinated in ford's theater at 10:13pm. April 15, 1865, he was shot in the head and died the next day. John Wilkes booth gets shot and killed on April 26.
