Mothers Death
His birth mother died in 1818 due to milk sickness. His father remarried to Sarah Bush Johnston. Lincoln was very close to her and even called her "mom". This changed his life. -
Lincoln becomes lawyer
Lincolns first position was a lawyer. This made him become known around the country, which later brought him to Congress. He was later asked to run for president by the republican party. -
Lincoln gets married
In 1842 Abe Lincoln married Mary Anne Todd. Many people believed her to be a little crazy. She was at Lincolns side when he was shot in the head. She died in 1882 after she was thought to be insane. -
Lincoln was elected President
Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860 after beating Stephen A. Douglas who he faced in many debates. He was a Republican who won all of the northern states and California. He was elected at the same time states had started to secede. -

The Civil War started right away in Lincolns presidential term. It started April 12, 1861. This was very difficult for Lincoln because he had to bring the country back together as soon as he could. The first state to secede was South Carolina. -

January 1, 1863, Lincoln made a big decision to make an act that freed all of the slaves in the North and South. This may of not allowed slaves to just runaway,but it made slaves work slower and break equipment. -

Civil War Ends
The Civil ended on April 9, 1865. General Lee of the Confederate army surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse on that date. That was a huge victory for the Union and Lincoln. He gained many new followers and enemies from this. -
Abraham Lincoln is assasinated
Lincoln is assassinated by John Wilkes Booth while attending a play at Ford's Theater. Booth and a few other men set out to kill political or military leaders that night. Lincoln was shot in the back of his head. He died the day after he was shot.
