Abraham Lincoln's mother dies
Abraham Lincoln's mother dies at the age of 34 from milk sickness. Abraham Lincoln was very close to his mother and was heartbroken when she dies. Lincoln was upset for a long time after she died. He had no one to confide in till his father remarried a year after his mother died. -
Abrham Lincoln loses Senate Race
Lincoln wasn't elected probabaly because he was an unknown canidate and the other canidate had more experience. The other canidate, had chaired different comittees and he had been in politics longer than Lincoln in that time. -

"Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves; and under a just God, can not long retain it." This quote is saying how that denying people freedom, don't deserve it. They aren't doing what God wants them to do. They are denying freedom to people who deserve it as human beings. -
Abrham Lincoln was elected president for the first time
Abraham Lincoln was nominated president for the first time. Lincoln would be able to voice his opinion more vocally on slavery and maybe be able to abolish it. This election was focused on how the United States was divided bewteen slave owners and non slaver owners. Lincoln wanted to bring the United States together again. -

The Confederate states are formed in the lower half of the country. The states stretch from South Carolina all the way to Texas. The president for the Confederate states is Jefferson Davis. He served as a senater and as secretary of defense for Frankling Pierce. This affected Lincoln because now his country was divided and his country wasn't just one country under God, it was two. -

''The man does not live who is more devoted to peace than I am. None who would do more to preserve it."
This quote is saying how Abrahm Lincoln is very dedicated to peace. He wanted to keep peace in his country and he didn't want to resort to war. This quote also says how he wants all people to be in peace together, the whites and the blacks, the slaves at the time. -
The Confederate States say that they won't uphold with any laws passed by the Union
March 11, 1861
The Confederate Congress unanimously adopts the Confederate Constitution, which declares the sovereignty of states and forbids the passage of any bill which outlaws slavery. This means that Lincoln has no power over the states in the confederacy. Any bills he passes aren't valid and it also means that the slaves in these states can't even be free. They are not under his jurisdiction anymore. They are stuck in the confederacy with no way out. -
The Civil War Started
The Civil war started when the Confederate forces fired upon Fort Sumter, an improtant fort held by the Union in South Carolina. After this happened, President Lincoln called for the Union army to retake it. While all this was happening, 4 more states joined the conferderacy. -

Abraham Lincoln lost their second child ,Willie Lincoln to typhoid fever. He was the second son the Lincoln's had lost and Mrs Lincoln was beside herself. Lincoln was also very upset. Willie was his favorite child and now he had lost someone that he cared about very much. -
The District of Columbia Abolishes Slavery
Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery in the District of Columbia weeks before the Emancipation Proclamation. This was a big deal because this was the nation's capital. Washington D.C. was a place where they senaters, the preseident lived and was the place where laws were passed. If the capital had slavery, it wouldn't look good for the whole coutnry. Lincoln decesion was a good one so now the nation's capital was free. -
Emancipation Proclamation
This proclamation stated that all slaves in the confederate states were free. This wasn't a law passed by Congress, it was just a proclamation that Lincoln stated. This also stated that the armies that were there, were to treat all the freed slaves equally. -
The Second Bull Run
The Confederate Generals Lee and Stonewall Jackson defeat the Union troops with ease which is under the direction of General John Pope. This leads tp huge Union casualties. This was a big deal because it shows the Union losing and it also shows that they couldn't win a battle. This showed that the Union needed to be stronger and at the moment that they weren't strong enough. -
Nevada is deemed a state
Nevada was offically a state on October 31st, 1864. Nevada was the 36th state admitted. This showed that even though the country was split, that the coutnry can still move forward. It showed that the coutnry is still United as one and that they are strong enough to make a big change in a hard time. -
Abraham Lincoln was sworn in for his second term as president- Inagural Address.
Abraham Lincoln was sworn in for a second term. This was a good thing because people wanted slavery to end and they knew they could get it accomplished with the helo of Lincoln. People trusted in him and felt comforted with him by their sides. -

"Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally." This quote is saying how he is skeptical of people who say they beleive in slavery but don't seem proven. . He doubts people who say they are and really aren't. -
The Civil War ended.
The Civil War ended April 9th, 1865. General Robert E. Lee, the Confederate general surrendered to Grant the Union general. The slaves were freed by the Union troops. At the end of this war, the confederates had lost 620,000 men. The Union lost 360,222 to both being killed in the war and to disease. -
Abrham Lincoln was Assassinated
Abraham Lincoln eas assassinated April 15th, 1865 at Ford's Theater. He was murdered by John Wilkes Booth. Abraham Lincoln was accompanied at the theater by his wife, his friend and his wife. There was one bullet that pierced his skull and he didn't die onstantly. He was unconcscious before he died 11 horus later.
