    Aboriginal man Jimmy Governor goes on a rampage killing ten people. He was captured and hanged at Darlinghurst Gaol, NSW, on january 18th 1901. This event is long before equality comes into the situation however, this is a big set back because it creates a bad stereotype for aboriginal people.

    A monthly newspaper, Australian Abo Call is published in Sydney, advocating equality of treatment and opportunity for Aboriginal people. This is a BIG step towards equal rights because it is the first time that aboriginal equal rights is first publicised in a newspaper, It inspired Aboriginals to stand up for themselves
  • First Mass Aboriginal Strike

    First Mass Aboriginal Strike
    The first-ever mass strike of Aboriginal people in Australia occurs, called the Cummeragunja Walk-off. Over 150 Aboriginal people pack-up and leave Cummeragunja Aboriginal Station in protest at the cruel treatment and exploitation of residents by the management. They walked 66kms. This major event was big because the aboriginals made a stand without any physical violence.

    Margaret Williams is the first Aboriginal university graduate with a diploma in physical education. This is a big step to equality in the workforce and education. It also inspired the aboriginals to get an education and be successful
  • The Eddie Mabo Act

    The Eddie Mabo Act
    Eddie Mabo was man from the Torres Strait Islands known for his role in campaigning for Indigenous land rights and for his role in a landmark decision of the High Court of Australia which overturned the legal doctrine of terra nullius which characterised Australian law with regards to land and title. This was a big step towards rights and freedoms for the aboriginal people. This act let made it possible for aboriginals to take back land that was originally theirs if they need the land to survive

The report marked a pivotal moment in the controversy that has come to be known as the Stolen Generations.The inquiry was established by the federal Attorney-General, Michael Lavarch, on 11 May 1995
