Gravey foundeed the Black Star Steamship Company in 1919. He wanted african Americans to invest in it saying that they would get huge returns. He never turned profit and was jailed for mail fraud. Coolidge pardoned Garvey but deported him. A news paper writer said "he made black people proud.....He taught them that black is beautiful" -
Coolidge remains popluar
Coolidge kept the government spending low and made possible both a tax cut and further reductions in the national debt. He remain a popular president in the upp 1920's. He to everyones suprise did not run for president even though he could have easliy run and won it.
