George Washington is the first elected president of the United States. He was unanimousley voted into office. His Vice President was John Adams. Washington served 2 terms. -
The Whiskey Rebellion
The government raised taxes on whiskey. This action made farmers angry becasue whiskey was a common object that they used often. They rebelled but were tamed by the time the U.S. army reached the Appalacian Mountains. -

U.S. diplomats wanted to speak to Talleyrand, a French leader, and three lower French men claimed that the U.S. had to pay them before they could speak to Talleyrand about issues between the two countries. -
The Alien and Sedition Acts
The Alien Act was an act that stated that you had to live in the U.S. for 14 years to become a citizen, the president can deport any immigrant that he thinks is dangerous, and he could also detain enemy aliens during time of war. The Sedition Act stated that it was now illegal to criticize the government in newspapers. These were an issue because they were unconstitutional by giving the president too much power and by violating the freedom of the press stated in the first amendment. -
Thomas Jefferson becomes President
Jefferson is elected the third president of the United States. He was a democratic-republican. Aaron Burr was his vice president. Jefferson served two terms in office. -
Judicial Review is Established
In the court case, Marbury vs Madison, judicial review was established. In the Judiciary Act of 1789, the Supreme Court was given jurisdiction, however, a previous court case ruled it unconstitutional. Judicial review is the power of the courts to examine the actions of the government and to determine whether they are constitutional. -
Lewis and Clark start their Expidetion
In 1803, Jefferson had doubled the size of the U.S. by buying the Louisiana Territory from France. He told Lewis and Clark to gather information about plants, animals, the climate, and the geographical features. They were also instructed to follow the Missouri River and travel all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The whole expidetion took 28 months. -

The Embargo Act was an act passed to prohibit all trade with foreign countries. The reason this act was passed was because mainly British, but some French ships were seizing American merchant ships and taking control of them. -

The Battle of Tippecanoe was an attck on Prophestown along the Tippecanoe River. The battle was between the Americans and a Native American tribe lead by Tecumseh. Americans wanted to continue moving west, but the Native Americans were living there. This caused tensions between the people. The Americans won this battle. -
The U.S. Declares War
The U.S. declared war on Britain for various reasons. The first reason is because of impressement. British ships were seizing American merchant ships and this was putting a major stop on U.S. economics. Also, there were still British forts in America where they didn't belong. The third reason is Great Britain was convincing Native Amercians to turn against the Americans and cause fighting. The U.S. wanted Canada, too. Lastly, the British had no respect for Americans. -
The British Burn DC
The British marched into Washington DC to get revenge. They burned down the Capitol Building, the White House, the Treasury Building, and many others. They burned everything. Dolly Madison, James Madison's wife, managed to save some paintings and artwork that had been hanging in the White House. Including a very famous picture of George Washington. -
The Battle of New Orleans
This battle wasn't supposed to actually be a battle. It started about 2 weeks after the treaty was signed. However, word did not get to New Orleans in time. This would've been a major victory in the war for the Americans. -
