Compromise of 1850
A compromise that said that there would be a stronger fugitive slave act, no slave trade in Washington D.C., California was a free state, and Utah and New Mexico could decide on having slavery or not. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin Published
This book made the North more aware of slavery's cruelty and it made them mad. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This created the Kansas and Nebraska territories and abolished the Missouri Compromise. -

When people started fighting over slavery in Kansas and they are being very violent. -
Dred Scott Decision
When Dred Scott went into Wisconsin (which was a free state,) and he claimed that he should be free. But, the congress said he shouldn't be and this angered the North because they felt like the Supreme Court was saying that slavery was okay. -

Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas argued about having slavery in more territories and states. -
John Brown raids Harper Ferry
John Brown was an abolitionist and he was sick of waiting for politics to save his problems. So he broke into a ammo storage unit so he could arm the slaves so they could revolt and get free. -

Abraham Lincoln is elected president of the United States. This made the South mad because they didn't put Lincoln on the ballot.
