Compromise of 1850
The same man who helped settle Missouri crisis in 1819-20 and the crisis of nullification now stepped forward with another plan with the Compromise. Its Sentator Henry Clay thats from Kentucky. This compromise this time is making California a free state and the rest of the Mexican Cession was divided to Utah and New Mexico. -
California Enters The Union
California enters the Union as a free, no slavery state by the Compromise in 1850. -
Harriet Beecher Stowe publishes the book, Uncle Tom's Cabin
Its a bnook that was made by a white woman. Harriet Beecher Stowe publishes the novel, Uncle Tom's cabin. It changed forever how the American Slavery was around 1852. Lots of people started to read it back then. It was popular at that time. -
Political Parties
Some of the people from the Whigs, Democrats, Free- Soldiers, and abolitionstst was unrested by the Political. Theres a new political Party was made. Its the Republican Party. The main issue uniting differect groups to spread slacery. They were having a hard time gaining support because some were agaisnst slavery. -
Kansas- Nebraska Act
President Pierce signs Kansas- Nebraska Act in the law. It was a decision that Nebraska and Kansas wanted slavery or not slavery. Missouri was a slave and a nonslave state. -
Republican Party
This party was against slavery. The people who attended the party wanted to stop the amount of slavery in North America. -
Lincoln- Douglas Debate
In 1816, Lincoln became involved with politics. After a while, Lincoln joined the Republican Partyin 1856. He supported the effort of halting the spread of slavery. Lincoln claimed that Democrats wanted to spread slavery and the future of the west. Douglas was critisizing Lincoln for saying that the nation can't be half free and half slavery. -
Dredscott Decision
It was about a black man that had became free but wasn't able to actualy be free. His owers took him, but then he went to the surpreme court to talk about it. After he went to the court, not a US cittison and that no slave was free anymore. -
Raid of Harpers Ferry
A guy named John Brown and he didn't like Slavery. He decided to get a group of people and went on a raid to free slaves. The group was captured later after the night of the raid. On December 2, 1859, Brown was hanged because of making it happen. -
Democratic party
In April 1860, they were selcting their candiate for President. There was a number of aging politericans and distinguised citizens calling themselves constitutional union party. Lincoln was the 16th president on Nov. 6, 1860. Lincoln was the first republican to win the presidency.
