Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott an enslaved person who was illegal in the north and south, went into the supreme court to fight for the freedom of enslaved African Americans. The court decided that Africans were not citizens and they could not go to court. They also decided that living in a free territory does not make a person who was once a slave free. -
Lincoln - Douglas Debate "A House Divided Against itself can not stand."
Lincoln was appointed to run against Douglas for the senate. In a political speech, Lincoln explained that if the United States were divided then they would not be a powerful and strong country. -
John Brown's Raid at Harper's Ferry, Virginia
John and a small group of people attacked a town and seized guns that were stored there. 10 of John’s supporters were killed and John himself was wounded and captures. -

Tennessee Senator Andrew Johnson and Texas Governor Sam Houston met in Alabama to create the Confederate States of America. They even wrote a constitution.
