Salva-Chapter 1
Salva is in school when he hears the fire of a gun. The rebels are at war with southern Sudan because religion is being forced upon them. Salva is forced in a direction away from his home, his family. -
Salva-Chapter 2
Salva finds himself with a group and they are separated by tribe, but theirs none of his family. They are later asked to be separated by age and gender, women and children in one section, men in the other. Salve tries to go with the men but is stopped by a soldier. In the middle of the night everyone leaves him and he finds himself left alone in a shed. -
Salva-Chapter 3
Salva finds the lady whos shed he had been in. Shes very welcoming and allows him to stay, and even gives him what little food she can. She says she is leaving to find water and Salva panics. He hears whispering soon after and sees a group of Dinka traveling together. -
Salva-Chapter 4
The group takes Salva in, because he is Dinka to. Salva is walking behind a boy named Buksa, and he excitedly anounces he foung a beehive. Salva is excited because he is going to put honey in his starved stomach. -
Salva- Chapter 5
Salva makes a friend Marial. They talk about there fears and both do not have family. At the end of a story a voice calls "Salva" and we beleive its his family. -
Salva-Chapter 6
Salva finds his uncle and he promises to look after Salva. He has a gun and gets meat for them, but so much food was to much for most of the groups starved stomachs and they began to vomit. At the end of the chapter uncle gives us the bad news that something bad happened to Marial. -
Salva- Chapter 9
Salva is super thirsty but needs to save the water. His toe nail falls off and he cries. They are in the desert and its way to hot. They see a group of 9 men on the floor. A women runs up to one of the motionless bodys and wets the lips of a man while crying. -
Salva-Chapter 8
Salva and the group make it across the Nile. People give them crops, which they have plenty of, because uncle has a gun. The mosquitos bite them all night and few get sleep. -
Salva-Chapter 10
A few of the men are revived and Salva wishes he could have given water. Salva asks uncle how his family will find him and he tells him they most likely did not make the attack alive. A group of armed men tie uncle to a tree and shoot him. Now Salva is alone. -
Salva-Chapter 7
Salva realises Marial was eaten by a lion. He takes the loss hard but moves on. The group builds a boat and they begin to travel across the Nile. -
Salva-Chapter 11
Salva shows perseverance in this chapter because alot of problems try to get in his way, but it only makes him stronger. Hes now alone without his uncle and Marial, but hes stronger. The group refuses to give him food or even talk to him, but this made him stronger. -
Salva-Chapter 12
Salva realizes his family is dead. Salvas life has changed. He is alone and before he had family. But he has changed his mindset as well. He is stronger and has learned to not be upset about his losses but to use that as strength and energy. -
Salva-Chapter 12
Salvas life has not changed because once again he is being chased out of where he is safe. -
Salva-Chapter 13
The men are shooting at them and he is forced to cross the Nile. Alligators attack them along the way. Once again he is stuck walking and he realizes he must go to Kenya. He is the leader this time and he makes sure everyone is fed and working. The journey took a year and a half. They went from Ethiopia to Sudan to Kenya. -
Salva-Chapter 14
Salva has become -
Salva-Chapter 15
Kenya-Rochester, New York. Salva shows perseverance because he is leaving behind his home and memories and moving to New York without his family. He has "a new family" and he oftenly thinks of his old family, but he tells himself to keep going. -
Salva-Chapter 16
Salva finds it hard to do many tasks and his new family helps him. He learns his father is alive and he takes a jet to go there, and the plan to go takes months to plan. He worries his father might leave the hospital he is at. -
Salva-Chapter 17
Salva meets his father once again and it inspires him to start a project to help the people of Sudan. He goes all over talking about his plans and trying to raise money. -
Nya-Chapter 1
Nya must go on a long journey with natural dangers threatening. her in order to collect water. -
Nya-Chapter 2
Nya accidentally steps on a thorn on her trip to get water. It hurts very bad, but she must continue her journey anyways. -
Nya-Chapter 3
Nya reaches the pond and fills the container. She balances the now full container on her head and realizes it will be a long journey home with the heavy container. -
Nya-Capter 4
Nya makes her first trip back and her mother tells her she must take her younger sister Akeer. Akeer is only five and will slow her down, but she must learn what to do. -
Nya-Chapter 5
During the dry season Nya and her family must move to a camp near a lake. Even at the rich lake theres little water and Nya must dig a whole and wait for hours for the hole to fill. -
Nya-Chapter 6
Nya realizes her mother hates the camp they must stay in each year. Nyas brother and father must go hunting and if they encountered the Dinka tribe, they would fight. -
Nya-Chapter 9
Nyas brother Dep says the chief was talking about water. Maybe the pond is drying up already. -
Nya-Chapter 8
Nya takes her sister to the camp and the nurses tell them Akeer is sick from the water. They explain you must purify it by boiling it, but Nya knows theirs to little water to boil and it will evaporate to quickly. -
Nya-Chapter 7
Akeer is very sick and Nya wonders if she can make the journey to the nurses camp. -
Nya-Chapter 10
I think the men are there to build a new pond for Nyas village. -
Nya-Chapter 11
Nya finds it hard to believe there will be water because if its that easy why wouldn't her village have done it earlier. Also the place they are finding water is dry. -
Nya-Chapter 12
The iron giraffe is a crane and Nya has never seen technology like that, so she relates it with something she knows, a giraffe. -
Nya-Chapter 13
The pond is still slowly being built and the boss must keep them going because the workers get discouraged. He talks with the workers and laughs with them, but if that doesn't work he yells. -
Nya-Chapter 14
Nyas village celebrates because the pond they were building is finally filling with water. The water was not clean though, it was muddy and gross. -
Nya-Chapter 15
Nya learns the pond wont have drinkable water for many more days and the water in the pond right now came from the other pond with dirty water. -
Nya-Chapter 16
Nyas dad tells her they are clearing land and Nya wonders why. -
Nya-Chapter 17
Nya learns a school is being built. She is super excited because she finds out all the children will attend school, including the girls. -
Nya-Chapter 18
Salva leads a project to bring water to Nyas village and many other places.
