The compromise of 1850 was supposed to resolve the conflict between slaves and slave states. -
California Statehood
California became a state in September 1850. The United States paid $15 million for it and acquired it after the Mexican war. It was a large landmass of the United States acquired at the time of the war in 1848. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin is published
Uncle Tom’s cabin was a novel about anti-slavery. Harriet Beecher Stowe published two volumes of it in 1852. It is said that this book helped start the Civil War. -
Creation of the Republican Party
In the beginning of the Republican party consisted of businessman, ex slaves, farmers, Northern protestants, and factory workers. They all believed in freedom for everyone. -
Kansas/Nebraska Act
The Kansas/Nebraska act let the people decide if the territories would allow slavery or not. This open fresh wounds of the Missouri act and how they outlawed slavery in the north. This may have been one of the biggest things that could’ve happened to start the Civil War. -
Bleeding Kansas (Lawrence, Kansas)
After the Kansas/Nebraska act, proslavery people stormed the streets of Lawrence Kansas and burned hotels and anything they could down to the ground. They destroyed the streets in protest against banning slavery. -
Caning of Charles Sumner
Caning of Charles summers was when Representative Preston Brooks, a pro-slavery Democrat from South Carolina, used a walking cane to attack Senator Charles Sumner, an abolitionist Republican from Massachusetts. -
Dred Scott Decision
The Dred Scott decision was made by the Supreme Court that Dred Scott a slave was not entitled to his freedom because African-Americans could never be citizens of the United States. However this law changed and declared Dred Scott a free man later on. -
Lincoln's A House Divided Speech
Lincoln’s house divided speech was about having half slave states and half non-slave states. He believed that America could not behalf and that they needed to choose whether to be slave states or non-slave states. There were many more non-slave states and slave states so the sleeves it’s got angry at this speech. -
the presidential election of 1860
John C Beckenridge and Abraham Lincoln went head to head to become the United States next president. With one 180 roebucks Abraham Lincoln became United States percent well with 70 votes Johnson Beckenridge win. Abraham Lincoln was a republican while John C Beckonridge was a southern Democrat. Which means Beckenridge believed in slavery while Abraham Lincoln did not.
