JSMA was contacted two years in prior to start of A-Co project in September of 2011. Edison Elementary School and Resident Sculptor, Jessie Vala, were contacted in September of 2012. Material providers were contacted after the school and Resident Sculptor were selected, roughly one year in advance. Upon meeting with the organizations listed above, important dates were established and confirmed. -
JSMA Exhibition Opening
All participants in the sculpture project including the founders of A-Co, the resident sculptor and associates, and participating community members (in this case the students of Edison Elementary, their families, and their teacher) will be invited to attend the opening of the model exhibition, National Geographic’s Greatest Photographs of the American West. At the opening, the participants will be publicly recognized for their intent to pursue the project. -

JSMA Exhibit
A-Co sculpture installation is inspired by and based off of the "National Geographic’s Greatest Photographs of the American West" exhibition at JSMA which is up from September 28, 2013 through December 31, 2013. -
Period: to
Creation
During the first week of the National Geographic Exhibition students of Edison viewed the displayed exhibit. In the second week of the exhibit students had exhibit review and sculpture brainstorm sessions. The third week was when the student and Resident Sculptor collaboration sessions began. Week four and five of the exhibit were for building sessions. -
Installation
The work will be installed at the mid-point of the model exhibition (November 16-17, 2013). The work will be installed by the resident sculpture and their associates and the preparations team at the sponsoring museum. Community members (the students and teacher of Edison Elementary) may be invited to view the installation process if they so desire, at the digression of the museum and resident sculptor. The community members may also add the finishing touches. -
A-Co Opening
There will be a second opening sponsored by A-Co during the middle of the model exhibition’s run, to promote the installation of the sculpture and re-invigorate visitor attendance to the model exhibition. -
Period: to
Exhibition
After installation at the midpoint of the model exhibition, the sculpture will remain on view for the duration of the model exhibition, for a little over six weeks. In the case of the current exhibition, the sculpture will remain on view until December 31, 2013. After the work is de-installed from exhibition at the museum, the museum and resident sculptor will refer to the contract initiated at the onset of the project, which will specify who will take permanent ownership of the work. -
Deinstallation
The work will be de-installed at the end of the model exhibition on December 31, 2013. The work will be de-installed by the resident sculpture and their associates and the preparations team at the sponsoring museum. Community members (the students and teacher of Edison Elementary) may be invited to view the de-installation process if they so desire, at the digression of the museum and resident sculptor.
