Castellers de Vilafranca
Where: Mostly in Catalonia, Spain. But many people all over Spain try to create the tallest human tower.
Why: It is a tradition that evolved from the popular dance Ball de Valencians, during the 17th century, which back then had only a few people balancing on top of each other.
When: The first cultural association of Castellers de Vilafrancas was created in September,1948. -
Castellers de Vilafranca
Who: Usually people in Catalonia, Spain. Teams of people, made of women, men, and children, create the towers. Anyone may participate.
What: Groups of people are staked on to of each other, trying to see who can make the tallest human tower. Besides the staking of human towers, there are also huge celebrations. Such as concerts, theatrical performances, recitals, fairs, firework displays, giant figures, typical Catalan dances,and parties that last all night long. -
Moros y Cristianos: in Alcoy
Who:People all over Spain celebrate Moros y Cristianos. In Alcoy they celebrate St. George and how he lead the Cristians to victory against the Moors.
When: In Alcoy they celebrate from April 22-24.
Where: All over Alcoy in Alicante, Spain. But there are also many festivals all across Spain.
Why: The festivals represent the capture of the city by the Moors and the Christian defeating them and getting the city back. -
Moros y Cristianos: in Alcoy
What:The festival acts out the battles between the Arabs and the Christians that took place centuries ago in Spain. During the first few days armies march around and about with bands, while the rest of the city is admiring. On the last day the Moors and Christians battle for the whole day; the Christians are defeated in the morning. But Saint George appears and he helps the Christians win the battle. -
La fería de abril
Who: Anyone and everyone who can be in the fair area will go.
What: During the festival colorful parades parade the streets. Women and girls wear flamenco dresses and ride around on horses. Bullfighting is also a common form of entertainment at La fería de abril. The streets are also lined with casetas/tents.
Where: Seville, Spain. -

Why:The fair started to become popular only after about one year of its exsistence. Mostly because the first casetas were owned by well-known people. From that point on the fair just kept growing and growing until it became the huge wonderful fair it is today.
When:The fair officially begins on Monday at midnight, normally 2 weeks after Semana Santa (Easter, Holy Week). It is predicted to run from April 3-8 in 2011.The Fair dates back to 1847 when it was originally organized as a livestock fair.
