The Indians of the Choctaw Nation were removed and put in the Indian Territory in present-day Oklahoma. The Indians suffered from disease, exposure, and starvation, and 4,000 of the relocated 15,000 Cherokee Indians died. -
Trail of Death
Trail of Death HistoryAmericans wanted to move west into northern Indiana. However, the Potawatomi Indians already owned land there because of a treaty. The government ordained the removal of 1000 Indians 660 miles away to Kansas. It is called the Trail of Death because children and the elderly died every day while crossing Illinois and Indiana.
