The Battle of Hastings
The Battle of Hastings was a deciding factor in Normandy's conquest of England. The current king, Harold II was killed placing Duke William of Normandy as king of England. He was later called William the Conqueror. -

Philip Augustus, Fredrik I, and Richard I start out. Philip Augustus goes home and Fredrik I drowns. Richard I is able to work out a treaty with Saladin. The treaty allowed Europeans to visit the Holy Lands if they come in peace. -

Steward to King Henry III. He sympathized with the common people and started an ealry parliament. He also married the Kings sister. He is remembered as the father of Parliament. -

This document placed limits on the King's power. It created constitutional law and applied to all free men (nonserf). This bill was signed by King John. -

The Hundred Years War was a series of wars over the rightful leader of France. Mainly a dynastic problem. Both governments used propaganda to promote their cause. The war presented job opportunities on both sides. Created a sense of nationalism on both sides.

Agincourt 1415- English victory even though heavily outnumbered. -

Peak of the Bubonic Plague
The Black Death was thought to have originated in China. It claimed over a third of Europe's population. It had to an almost 100% mortality rate. This plague was a major factor in the somber attitude in the middle ages. -

Papal Schism
. Disagreement on the rightful pope led to a break in the Catholic Church and created and anti-pope. This break was reconciled with the Council of Constance. -

Joan of Arc
Said God told her to lead the French army to victory and expulsion of the English from France. Won the battle of Orleans. Promoted that the soldiers should not swear or go to brothels. She was eventually captured by the English and burned at the stake for witch craft.
