French/ British Crusaders
The Crusaders conquered the north and west of Syria, but only ruled for a short amount of time
(78 years). In order to drive the Crusaders out, Eygpt and Syria joined together to overthrough the Crusaders and drive them out. This alliance still exsists today and Syria and Eygpt are close countries. -

Mongols invade Syria
Mongol conquerer Tameralne made his way over to Syria in 1400 after conquering Russia and Georgia. But two years later the Mongols left Syria in ruins to fight the Ottoman Empire. -

Ottoman Empire
Tho Ottoman empire made one of the strongest influences on modern day Syria. But when they ruled Syria's economy didnt flourish. Although in a poor state, many European traders bought agriculture from Syria. By the 15th century, Aleppo was the cheif marketplace in the Middle East. -
Independence
Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Israel parted their seperate ways and broke off from Greater Syria in 1946. After the seperation, the French tried to pick up what was left of Greater Syria. Syria gained their independence after the French were forced out of Syria by the United Nations. -
Syria becomes part of the United Arad Republic
In 1958 Syria and Egypt joined the United Arab Republic. Syria had put off joining the Republic untill the Syrian delegation convinced the president of the seriousnes of the comunist threat. -
Byzantines
The Byzantines were Christians from the Roman Empire. They conquered the northern part of Syria and ruled for 1, 000 years. The place where they conquered today is still a Christian area and many Syrian-Armenians live there. -
Tradional Pottery
Some forms of pottery used in modern day art was discovered at around 395 AD. Some traditional styles adapted form this time period are the use of geometrical shapes and elegent waves like figures.
