    Also called the "Original People" they became known as the Delawares by the colonists because they lived by the Delaware River. There were three main tribes; the Minsi also called Wolf, the Unami also called Turtle, and the Unalchtigo also called Turkey.

    Grasshopper War
    The Grasshopper War was againt the Shawnees and the Delawares (Lenni Lenape). The war first started when a child found a large, beautifully colored grasshopper. He showed all of the children but one was jealous and a fight broke out between the children. The women wanted to know why they were fighting but then started fighting themselves. The men returned and the women told them about the grasshopper fight and then the two tribes did not speak. Finally they began speaking and were friends again.

    Lord Berkeley sold his half of New Jersey to John Fenwick and Edward Byllnge. Western New Jersey was controlled by the Byllynge Quakers. Edward was the governor of West Jersey from 1680-1687.

    John Leidy Riegel Buys Gristmill in Finesville
    John L. Riegel's grandfather buys a gristmill in Finesville. He soon turns it into the area's first paper mill, and starts a business that in time will affect all of the area in and around Holland Township. However, this mill only lasts four years, and the company moves to Riegelsville in 1866. (unknown date)

    The milford mill is the fourth and final paper mill to be built by the Riegel family. The mill was operated by the Riegels until 1971, when the company was bought by James River Company. In 1972, it was finally shut down for good. (unknown date)

    Population now is 5,194. It is a good community that has a community center (Riegel Ridge Community Center) for entertainment for all ages. The community center has a pool, excercising rooms, football field, and three baseball fields.
