This act was created to try to help the American economy by making U.S. products the ideal items to buy. The tariff raised taxes on foreign goods to protect U.S. businesses. -
Bonus Army March
Veterans marched on Washington demanding their payments for their military services. After a couple weeks, the attorney general ordered the military to clear out the veterans. Pictures soon travelled around the country, causing many to become upset. -
President Franklin D. Roosevelt is elected
President Roosevelt is the only president to have been elected to more than two terms. He has also faced multiple assassination attempts, the final one ending his life. He led America through the Great Depression. -
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)
The CCC was part of the New Deal that was meant to give young, unemployed men work. It conserved natural resources in rural areas. -
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)
The TVA was also part of the New Deal. It tried to help the economy of the Tennessee Valley area, which was one of the worst areas to live in during the Great Depression. -
FDIC
The FDIC is a government organization that was created to protect people who had money in banks. If a bank was a member of the FDIC and something happened to it, the people with money in that bank would have their money, up to $250,000, saved. -
Works Progress Administration (WPA)
The WPA was one of the most helpful organizations created by the New Deal. It employed millions to build things such as highways and parks in almost every area of the United States. -
Social Security Act
This act is still in effect today. It mostly helps the elderly, providing them with money after retirement. It also helps the poor, widows, and the unemployed. -
Beginning of World War 2
World War 2 started because of the Nazi invasion of Poland. The Nazi's were trying to achieve world domination. They were also allied with Slovakia and Japan. Japan caused the U.S. to enter the war.
