New Medical Methods introduced
Ambroise Pare introduced new methods in surgery and for treating wounds, arguing for ointments instead of burning oils. -
Proposes use of Decimals
Simon Stevin proposed. He wrote a booklet about decimals called "De Thiende" or 'the art of tenths'.This was first published in Dutch and translated into French. -

First Observation of Mercury across the sun
Pierre Gassendi, familiar with Keplet's astronamical tables, becomes the first to observe a transit of the planet Mercury across the disc of the sun. -
Newton builds his first reflecting Telescope
Includes an eyepiece and a concave mirror. It is known as a 'Newtonian'. -
Newton Dies
Newton's health fails, he collapses and borders on death; shortly thereafter, Newton dies at Kennington between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m.
