Which Southerns argued that this tariff helped the Northerns which the Southerns believed was unfair. The reason why the tariff is so important is because it tested the relationship between the federal governments and the state governments.

    John Calhoun wrote a pamphlet named "Exposing and Protest" The pamphlet stated that they were protesting against the tariff and that South Carolina would want to secced.

    In 1833 Henry Clay came into office. He helped create a new tariff which slowly lowered tariff prices over the next few years. Which served as a compromise for South Carolina to not do anything else.
