Inspiration
The colonists did not like the way Britain was taxing and treating them. They had a revolution against Britain after trying to peacefully fix it. The colonists won creating a new country. This is important as the win inspired France to go into their own revolution. -
Weak Government
Revolution is caused by serious faults found within the country. In France's case it was Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Marie wasn't popular from the beginning with the French people and Louis constantly pushed off problems. He rarely solved problems and benefited the country. This was a big factor to causing the revolution as none of the problems that caused it were solved due to them pushing it off. -
Storming of Bastille
French revolutionists stormed Bastille. For hours they fought and after four long hours they were able to enter. They wanted gun powder from the armory. This was a big step forward towards revolution and the French people celebrate this to this day as national holiday. -
Rush to the Castle
Armed angered women stormed to the castle with weapons like knifes and axes. They forced the national assembly to provide bread and then went for the king and queen. They got passed the guards and banished the king and queen out of the castle to Paris. This event shows the power and strength of the revolution to come. -
A state-controlled church
The national assembly took over the Church lands and limited some of their power. They lost a lot of their political power. They also lost a lot of money in this action as well. This was important as it paid off a great deal of France's debt. -
Royal Family tries escaping
After church and state were restored the royal family heard from advisers it might be best to leave. As he worried about the fate of monarchy he believed it was best to leave France. People prevented him from leaving which made him look worse. This was the final fall of his power over France fueling the revolution more. -
Maximilien Robespierre gains power
Maximilien Robespierre gains power and turns into one of France's leaders. He first tries to wipe out a lot of past history by remaking calendars and dropping sundays. He tried stopping religion as he saw it as outdated and harmful. This was a bad aspect of the revolution because he stayed in a dictator role. -
Napoleon's military success
Napoleon was sent to defend some things and he always sent the attackers running within minutes. He conquered many places. He was a strong military leader for France. He was a big impact on the revolution as he was one of the most famous strong revolution military leader. -
Napoleon makes himself emperor.
He crowned himself emperor and many other voters agreed with him and the role. Everyone gathered to watch this. He had gained more power than the churches before usually held. This was a big turning point as France had a emperor that they agreed with now. -
Building of the French empire
Napoleon was unstoppable as he kept conquering new areas building the French empire. He was starting to stabilize the economy as well. France was starting to become stable again. This was a big turning point as France had a leader they liked and gained stability again.
