    Moros y Cristianos
    This festival takes place in Alcoy, Alicante in memory of the Battle of Alcoy in 1275. All year round, the people of Alcoy prepare for the up-coming festival. Christian and Moorish armies march around the town all day through the week of April 21-24. There are fireworks and bands. Gunpower fog is everywhere due to the mock battles in the streets. Banners and flags of the red cross of Saint George are hung everywhere.
  • Feria de Abril

    Feria de Abril
    The Feria de Abril is a fair that starts on the 10th of May at midnight and ends with fireworks the following Sunday, also at midnight. It is held in Seville, Spain. It begins with a parade of carriages and riders taking them to the bullring. Women dress in colorful dresses and men dress in short jackets, tight trousers and boots. The fairgrounds are covered with tents. People dance and party all day long. It was established in 1847 as a livestock fair, but soon became the fair that it is today.
  • Pamplona

    It is a festival or a bull run. It takes place in San Fermin, Spain from July 7th to 14th at 8am every morning. Anyone can do it, although many people have been injured. Runners wear white and a red handkerchief around their neck. The run is 825 meters. People who want to watch stand behind fences. This festival goes back as far as the 13th century and originally took place in October, but changed since the weather is nicer in July.
  • Castellers de Vilafranca

    Castellers de Vilafranca
    It is a festival that happens toward the end of August in Catalonia. The group called the Castellers build castells (human towers) by standing on each others shoulders. The base of the tower is many people all together. Anybody of all ages or genders can do it. Typically a 10 or 12 year old is at the very top of the tower. When the tower is completed, the 10 or 12 year old waves to the crowd indicating that they're done. They do it because it's a way of competition and a way to meet their goals.
  • La Tomatina

    La Tomatina
    It is a festival where people have a tomato fight. This fight takes place in Buñol, Spain on the last Wednesday of August. The fight lasts about an hour starting at noon. It started in 1945 during a parade with big figures. Kids tried to join the parade. The giants got knocked over and started swinging at people. The kids then started throwing tomatoes at him until the police arrived. The kids showed up again the next year and started another tomato fight. It is now a huge event in Spain.
